CANIMUN features a series of special events, offering delegates opportunities for networking, engaging with subject matter experts, developing soft skills and meeting other youth from around the world!

Embassy Visits Programme:

As Canada’s capital city, Ottawa hosts over 125 diplomatic missions. CANIMUN offers all delegates the opportunity to visit an Embassy or High Commission in the Ottawa area. Delegates will have the opportunity to meet with diplomats and embassy staff to discuss multilateral relations and foreign affairs. Organized by CANIMUN and UNA-Canada, these visits are a unique part of the CANIMUN experience and all delegates are encouraged to participate.

Diplomatic Briefing: Women Leaders in Diplomacy Panel

Recognizing the key role of women in diplomacy, and marking Canada’s G7 presidency in 2018, CANIMUN will convene high-level diplomats from the G7 countries to showcase successful strategies for women in leadership. These are the strategies that ensure equality between women and men as partners in diplomacy as well as providing a focus on the crucial role this dynamic plays in inter-governmental relations with respect to human rights, humanitarian action, and peace and security.

  • Oonagh Fitzgerald, Director of the International Law Research Program, Centre for International Governance Innovation

  • Peter Boehm, Deputy Minister and Sherpa for the G7 Summit
  • Leslie M. Lawson, Department Homeland Security (DHS) Attaché To Canada at US Federal Government
  • Fabrizio Nava, Minister Counsellor, Italian Embassy in Canada
  • Kareen Rispal, French Ambassador to Canada
  • Eugen Wollfarth, Minister and Deputy Head of Mission, German Embassy in Canada

Diplomatic Reception:

Before the panel, we will be hosting a networking reception with the speakers along with some other special guests for some discussion, coffee, and treats.

Policy Workshops:

Held right after lunch on Saturday, delegates will return to their committee rooms to spend an hour with a subject matter expert in the topic of discussion. The expert could be a professor or a professional, and will provide delegates with additional context on their committee topics and provide guidance and feedback on resolutions.
