CANIMUN features a series of special events, offering delegates opportunities for networking, engaging with subject matter experts, developing soft skills and meeting other youth from around the world!

Opportunity Expo:

Hosted as a reception to follow Opening Ceremonies, the Opportunity Expo will feature universities, businesses, non-profits, and other kinds of organizations with mandates or specializations in Global Affairs or Development and opportunities for students and recent graduates. Delegates will have the chance to learn about various career paths, network with potential employers, and enjoy a few refreshments after we ring in the opening of CANIMUN 2018.

Embassy Visits Programme:

As Canada’s capital city, Ottawa hosts over 125 diplomatic missions. CANIMUN offers all delegates the opportunity to visit an Embassy or High Commission in the Ottawa area. Delegates will have the opportunity to meet with diplomats and embassy staff to discuss multilateral relations and foreign affairs. Organized by CANIMUN and UNA-Canada, these visits are a unique part of the CANIMUN experience and all delegates are encouraged to participate.

Diplomatic Briefing:

The Diplomatic Briefing is held later in the morning on Friday, during the latter part of the period designated for Embassy Visits. Delegates and faculty advisors who are unable to visit an embassy or are able to return to the conference in venue in time are welcome to attend the briefing. Diplomatic officials will be present to discuss and answer questions on international relations, diplomatic affairs and their experiences in the foreign service.

Diplomatic Reception:

After the briefing, we will be hosting a networking reception with the speakers along with some other special guests for some discussion, coffee, and treats.

Policy Workshops:

Held right after lunch on Saturday, delegates will return to their committee rooms to spend an hour with a subject matter expert in the topic of discussion. The expert could be a professor or a professional, and will provide delegates with additional context on their committee topics and provide guidance and feedback on resolutions.
